What inspires you to get up each morning? To start the day off on the right track? To consciously stay in that headspace, that mindset, of positivity and love… What grounds you each day, each moment… Are you working towards constantly growing, constantly evolving or are you stuck in place? What inspires you? Who inspires you? How can you use that to help those around you?
I read somewhere once a quote that really stuck with me… let’s be honest we all read quotes all the time that stick with us! That’s good because those are constant reminders for us to be the change, to be the light and love we want to see in the world…This quote though is one of my mantras everyday and it’s from Walk The Earth
“Kindness is one of the most forgotten, yet most wonderful gifts you could give. It heals wounds and brightens days. It brings us together and reminds us that we are more similar than we are different. Sometimes it’s easier to be cold and distant and harder to be warm and vulnerable. Choose kindness anyways. Be an encourager. Be someone who helps others. Give love. Have compassion. Stay humble. It is the little acts of kindness that make the biggest difference.”
Man that quote hits home every single time I read it! I almost feel I don’t have to keep writing… this just wraps it all up in a nice little box with a bow! HA… but no I definitely want to share more.
In our world today we can be anything we want to be. The choices are endless and vast. We can change our mind as often as we like as well, as long as the end goal is what is making us happy and most alive. Why not choose to be kind though? Why not consciously choose that everyday you are going to make the change start with you. No matter how small or how large the act you will do it, because it comes from you heart! It comes from who you truly are inside. No one truly looks or acts alike, we all have such different mannerisms, habits, traditions…. but in the end we are all human, we all breath the same air, we look at the same sun above us, we live on the same planet and we work, live and struggle together through this crazy thing called life…. We are all actually quite alike!
So what inspires you then to get up each day and be that change? I had a friend recently ask me to share what inspires me to get up each day and try to be that change I want to see in the world. So I wanted to share just a little bit!
Growing up the golden rule has always been something I have lived with and tried to achieve. “Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you.” How would I like other’s to treat me? Would I be offended if someone did what I am doing to me? How would those actions make me feel? While this seems so normal to me it is actually not that way since so much of our world and our society has turned into a me first world…. It’s turned into a race for that monetary glory, that fame and lavish lifestyle, which don’t get me wrong seems very nice and wouldn’t it be great to be surrounded by so many nice things, but in the end do any of those things really matter if we have cut other’s out of our life and forgotten humanity and kindness? And also this life is only temporary… wouldn’t you rather accumulate riches for yourself in the next life, heaven, through all the good deeds and actions you do down here?
Love as Jesus loved…. that is my simple, but effective mantra in life. Love unconditionally. Love your neighbor as yourself. In our world there is so much hurt and pain. So much suffering and destruction. So many people warring against each other and systems. So many people want unity and peace, but that is not the way to achieve it. Love is the way. Not any type of love though can fix it… only Agape love can achieve that. Agape love which is that unconditional sacrificial love. Christ’s love…. Jesus came down and died for all of us, He sacrificed himself because He loves us so much. That is true Agape love. “There is no greater love than this, that a man lay his life down for his friends.” John 15:13
This type of love is what inspires me every day to try and share that in any way I can. To spread that warmth and light. When you open yourself up to that Agape love you never really feel empty any more. So if you never feel empty why not share and share and share all you can with anyone that crosses your path??
This may seem simple to some…. but this is what inspires me every day… Sure there are famous people out there that have done amazing acts and deeds… they are inspiring! I am inspired when I see any type of kindness though, no matter the size of the deed or the person. You don’t have to be rich and famous to be kind. You don’t have to have a ton of money to share light and love. You don’t have to have a media platform to share these good deeds you are doing for recognition. You just have to wake up and know the change starts with you. It always has started with you and it always will. It’s like stones that each light up and glow as you step on them illuminating your path and all the area around you. Those swirls of color that shoot from your smile and touch. All a beautiful colorful chaos of humanity. We should never live our life in black and white…. Our world should not be black and white. Imagine instead each thought of kindness, each act of love blossoming into beautiful colors and flowers where once there was hurt and blandness…. If you could see that change more clearly would you try to consciously be more kind every day? We may not always be able to see the outcome of our actions, but we can feel it within ourselves. If our actions come from a place of true Agape love we will always feel that glow, that happiness within ourselves.
That is what inspires me. That is what helps me get out of bed each morning… Some mornings might be harder than others, but the important thing is that we still show up. I want to help out in any way I can to spread the love… I want to be inspired by acts of love to then share those acts and hopefully inspire others around me! Remember you can be anything you want to be in this world…. what do you want to be?

Dear Mikaela: I think when we first communicated a year or so ago, I didn’t really understand love the way you have described it. I though I did, but I had not been introduced to the various types of love that you described, and never put a label on “Agape” love, or had it so beautifully described as you have done for me here. I didn’t wake up in the morning thinking about what I could do to to inspire someone today. I often managed to do so, as I know I’m a good person at heart, but it really wasn’t planned or thought about, the inspiration just “happened”.
I attended a private Catholic school, but never had love explained to me in the beautiful way that you have always managed to do! I felt early on that you were a very special person, and feel that same intuition about you now as I write this. I really appreciate your understanding of love, all of its nuances, and perhaps most of all, the way you fit love and other people into your own life.
Yes, the Golden Rule was something I was taught as I grew up. And though it seems obvious to some like you, I wasn’t really taught how to apply it to my own life, or to those around me. And yet, you make it seem and sound so simple! As mentioned above, you are indeed a very special person!
I learn something new each time I read your work. And I truly understand why your personal friends mention that you wear your personality on your sleeve, because you do! Wishing I knew you better. Hope Orthodox Easter Week is as good as it can be for you! Until next time.
