The weather is starting to get nicer! Sure we still have our token rainy days or weeks, ahum PNW, but the sunny warm days are becoming more and more frequent and I am LOVING IT! It’s crazy to notice my motivation all of a sudden get better and the feeling of a heavy load mentally being lifted. Definitely have a better mood too. I’m always on the look out then for fun things to do during the nice weather! Especially with summer on the horizon the list is slowly growing. So I wanted to share a couple here and then hopefully you can leave some in the comments of ways you like to enjoy the nice weather so I can try them out as well!
Farmer’s Market/Saturday Market- I love a good local market to walk around and people watch, look at fun products for sale, get yummy food, etc. The list goes on! There’s so much local produce to choose from and the options only become more and more expansive as the warm weather continues. I love seeing all the fresh flowers and grabbing a pastry and a coffee as I peruse the stalls. One of my favorite trinkets I found at our local market is a sand art piece. I watched the guy make it by adding layers of sand and then with a special tool shaping it to make a desert landscape. Then at the top he stuck a candle. It’s so pretty and I loved watching the whole process! I’m sharing a picture of something similar, mine doesn’t have a camel, but the picture gives you a jist of what it looks like!
Hikes- ooooh one of my favorite things to do especially during the summer! I love driving a bit farther too to go on longer hikes. Climbing mountains is a favorite of mine because when it’s warm and clear and you get to the top of the mountain you can see for miles and miles and it just feels so satisfying! I have started doing more hill workouts with the weather getting nice to train and get myself into shape for those bigger hills this summer! I try to every summer do at least one big full day hike with my mom. We missed last year unfortunately so this year we are going to do it! It’s happening and when it does I will definitely share a post about it! I love going over to the Sister’s Wilderness Area in Central Oregon so that’s where this next hike will probably take place!
Visiting Farms/Fruit Picking- This one is super fun because it is slightly like the farmer’s market, but on a bigger level! You are going to the source and if you are going berry or fruit picking then you have fresh produce for a while at home. I struggle with patience picking the smaller fruits like blueberries and such, plus I end up eating so many than I put into my bucket… oops! BUT picking like peaches and even strawberries can be fun because they’re a little bigger. Plus usually at most farms they have their little farm stands at the front so you can buy local produce there as well. I just really enjoy exploring and seeing all the fresh food!
Coast Trip- I live in Oregon and pretty close to the coast so it is super fun to plan a day to go out and spend a day at the beach. It isn’t like the warm beaches in California unfortunately though. The Oregon coast is so gorgeous and rugged, but can be quite windy and cold so going during the summer it’s still a bit chilly, but more bearable! You can go walk on the beach, explore the old town and docks, get ice cream, bring a picnic, go on hikes, etc. I love listening to the sound of the ocean and taking off my shoes and walking barefoot in the sand. I think I need a beach trip very soon!
Wine Tasting- This is such a fun one as the weather gets nicer because you can go to the vineyards themselves and enjoy a nice tasting with yummy food. You can take tours at some wineries or even go winery hopping if there are multiple close by. That is such a fun thing to do with a group of friends. Cheese and wine! What a classic pairing. Do you have any local wineries around you? We have quite a few near us and then up north there are definitely more as the Willamette Valley is home to many wineries. You can dress up to and use a good excuse to maybe try on some of those new clothes you’ve been wanting to wear out for a while!
Gardening- If you don’t have a farm nearby or don’t want to go to a farm nearby, but want some fresh veggies and fruit of your own you could start your own garden! It’s a perfect excuse to get you outside in the nice weather and connecting with nature and you get down in the dirt. Plus you get so much satisfaction from watching something that you’ve put so much time and effort into grow! AND there’s nothing better than feeling like some fresh produce and walking out into your backyard or garden and just picking it! I love that so much. I definitely do that with our tomatoes and when the berries are in full swing! So much yummmm!
Drive In Movie Theater- This one is something I haven’t ever done before, but it’s on my bucket list! It’s a bit harder to do because there might not be drive in movie theaters near you, but if you are near one this would be such a fun idea! Especially if you have a truck or a car with a big bed in the back because you can pile up pillows and blankets and make a cozy sitting area in the back to watch the movie. Bring snacks and friends and just enjoy the whole experience!
These are just a few ways to enjoy the warm weather that I can think of off, but I know there are so many more! Heck you can go biking, boating, go for a picnic, roller blading, the list goes on and on and on! I just am so excited for this nice weather we are starting to have! I can’t wait for that sun kissed glow and tan and freckles that come with the sun. The shorts and sundresses and sandals. oooh maybe that’s another post idea for next time. Warm weather outfits! Okay I’m going to wrap this up before I take us down another rabbit hole. What are some of your favorite things to do in warm weather?
Hi Mikaela: I love your list of things to do in the summer. Sounds like you’d be lots of fun. I can tell from your IG videos, and this post, that you’d be a great person to visit these spots with. You’ve given me some wonderful ideas; hopefully something I list will interest you.
I really like to go shopping. I can’t be as specific as you but going out to look for bargains in thrift shops is a favourite activity of mine. Sometimes I know what I’m looking for, but for the most part I just like to browse; and of course have lunch somewhere!
Like you, I really love the beach. Often, I just go to relax and clear my head. Sometimes I go looking for fish. I love fishing on beaches, and rivers because I can go for long walks. It is a lot of fun!
We have wine tasting here too. Just south of here around Duncan, there are lots of vineyards. Visiting would be fun, I just never had anyone to go with.
I guess I’ll only mention one more thing – I’m addicted to visiting bookstores. New bookstores are nice, but my favourites are all second-hand bookstores! You really never know what treasures are on the shelves.
I guess that is all for now. I suppose I just enjoy going out. I loved your list of things, hopefully I’ll get to try something new this summer. Thanks for writing these! I always enjoy reading your blogs. xox
